This press dates to the 1890's. There is no manufacturer's stamp but it was probably manufactured in England. The press is painted black with decorative designs in gold. The die is stamped 'Kilmacthomas Rural Council'.
In Ireland rural districts were created in 1898 by the Local Government (Ireland) Act 1898. They were abolished in 1925 amid accusations of corruption, and their functions transferred to the county councils.
